Rested and Rejuvenated

On the second day of spring, I am vacationing in South Carolina and writing again for the first time in two months.  Life has a way of keeping us too busy to do the things we want to do.

A trip to the beach is one of my favorite ways to unwind (especially when the temperatures are still below freezing at home)!

Everyone needs “me time” – time to relax both mind and body; and now that I am finally relaxed… I am pounding the keyboard again with great vigor!!

Treasure Trails - The Coins Book 2 by Deniece GreeneTreasure Trails – The Coins (Book 2) takes place near Asheville, North Carolina.  New to this installment is Sedrick, a sexy shapeshifter who almost doesn’t make it out the first chapter alive!

Natie Stephens is on her way to Asheville in order to help Becki (her sister) plan her wedding to Royce.  Natie has finished school, resigned from her job and stashed her furniture in storage.  She is looking forward to seeing Sean Jones again; his green eyes have haunted her dreams since she first met last year.

Sean is Special Ops. – a technological genius with a soft spot for Natie Stephens.  He heard through Royce that she finally dumped her boyfriend, none too soon in Sean’s opinion.  Even better, she is expected at the compound within the next couple of weeks to help Becki plan her wedding to Royce.

Sean is looking forward to spending some “quality time” with Natie.  Can she handle the world he encounters on a daily basis?  A world filled with magic and creatures of the night?

It’s Christmas Time Again

Merry Christmas!!!   I’m happy to announce…The World Did NOT End!!

I can’t believe another year has gone by so quickly.  I did publish Treasure Tides – Book One of The Coins – in November at Smashwords.com.  It was quite a mile-stone for me!  I just had to “hack” my way through it all, and I have to say – it went so much more smoothly than anticipated.  The whole “meatgrinder” idea filled me with dread.

Never one to be satisfied, I then began to research POD – or Print On Demand options.  The first I tackled was Createspace – and after tweaking their template to hold the correct gutter (which took about 12 upload rejections), I converted the file from Word 2010 to Word 2007 and uploaded again.  That one worked!

Then…  I waited for a proof to be mailed to me (my Mother wants to read it, but is not inclined to use the IPAD – so I needed a paper copy).  I am thankful for Mom’s stubbornness, because after I received the printed copy and reviewed it… I had to go in and correct some previously undetected errors on the e-book!!  Those darn commas and quotation marks!

The other thing I didn’t like in the paperback version was the fact that the margins seem to be too close to the edge of the paper around the outside…so I will fix that prior to re-uploading.

Today I finished the RE-edit, uploaded my revisions to Smashwords, and will finish up the Createspace version this evening.

In celebration of the World not ending… AND my hopefully final revision… I am distributing a coupon that can be used at Smashwords – CLICK HERE

Chapter  I

What is that god-awful noise?

Royce thought as he struggled to open his eyes through the sledge hammer pounding on his skull.  It seemed to be keeping time to the beat of music blaring from very large speakers in very close proximity.

“Oh my God, Jonah, you are giving me a headache,” Natie said rubbing her temples.  “I want to relax and work on my tan, not listen to you pound on that stupid crate.  I don’t know why Becki had to bring that thing on board anyway.  It’s probably full of junk no-one else wanted, a stupid time-capsule or something.

“Well we won’t know if we don’t get it open, will we?” Jonah asked snidely, as he continued to pound and pry using the limited resources he had available on the boat.

“Seriously, leave the stupid thing alone Jonah, Uncle Kurt has the tools to open it at his house, and you are giving me a headache!  Give it a rest!”

“My breathing gives you a headache,” Jonah complained, as he threw the hammer and screw driver he had been using into a small tool box.

Becki ignored the exchange between Natie and Jonah; concentrating instead on rinsing the saltwater from her mask and regulator.  She would take the equipment home and dump it in the bathtub to clean it thoroughly, but this would work for now.  Saltwater deposits could build up and destroy scuba gear if it wasn’t properly cared for.

Becki had hoped to find a few sharks’ teeth while she and Jonah were diving, but they had not had any luck today.  She had found a crate though, the one Natie and Jonah were arguing over; of course, they had been arguing over one thing or another for the last four years, so why should today be any different?

As Becki shook her head and continued to clean her equipment, Natie continued to argue with Jonah, and Royce struggled to piece together the events of the past few days.  Where the hell was he?  He tried shifting into a more comfortable position, but seemed to be tightly wedged into a very small space.

Royce St. John led a Special Operations Force, for the Secret Council of Elders.  “The Council” consisted of both mortal and immortal members, and Chief Elder Arimus ruled with a strong hand.  Their primary function was to make sure humans continued to believe Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and other “mythical” creatures were just that, a myth.

Royce’s team had been called in to locate and return a set of coins that had been stolen centuries ago.  The coins were quite special and potentially deadly; if this particular set of coins ended up in the wrong hands, the consequences could be devastating to the entire world.

As his brain struggled to analyze exactly where he might be, he heard something that made his blood run cold.

“Jonah, don’t worry about the crate right now.  I’ll get Uncle Kurt to work on it,” Becki offered, hoping to avoid the inevitable shouting match between Natie and Jonah.

“Fine,” Jonah agreed, “I’ll just shove it off to the side, and you can deal with it later.  Hand me a beer, would you?”

Suddenly, Royce felt himself moving.  What the hell?

“Shit Becki,” Jonah complained as he shoved the crate out of the center of the walkway, “this crate seems heavier than it did when we pulled it out of water.  Kurt may have to come and pick the bitch up.”

This could not be right, his brain could not be functioning properly; there was no way hell he could be…trapped in a crate?

“Jonah, do you have to cuss all the time?  You know I don’t like to hear it.  You could say the same thing without using those words,” Natie said, her eyes never leaving the article she was currently reading.

“I don’t like to hear you complaining all the time, but that doesn’t stop you,” Jonah responded.

Becki groaned inwardly the constant bickering between Natie and Jonah were about to get on her very last nerve. If she had to watch him flirt with one more waitress, counter worker, or tourist, things were going to get ugly.  He was definitely not the kind of person she would have picked for Natie, but she would tolerate him because she loved her sister.

I’m In LOVE…with another man.

Shhhh, don’t tell my husband!

Editing is a much slower process than I had initially anticipated.  I’ve just finished putting the final touches on chapter four of thirteen chapters.  As each chapter is completed, it is reviewed by not one – but two editors (who are professionally trained and qualified).  Thank you ladies!!

With this being said, it is beginning to appear that mid-November represents a more realistic release date.  However, I promised you all something in September, so I will upload Chapter 1 within the next few days.  Watch my blog or my Facebook Fan Page for details.

OK!  Now that we have that out-of-the-way, on to the good stuff…the other man!

Many of the characters in my books are based in-part on someone I know; I might borrow their eye/hair color combination or crooked smile, perhaps a portion of their name.  Sometimes I base my characters on perceived attitudes of people  I do not even know.

The new love of my life shares his last name, and ONLY his last name, with a truly wonderful gentleman, who I have known and loved for many years.  I imagine that he could have been a rebel (like Trev) in his younger years, if not for his loving heart, inherent goodness, and of course, the fact that his wife would not allow it!

I am pleased to introduce Trevor Simmons;

Trev embodies sex-appeal; his raven-black hair just begs a girl to run her fingers through it and his dark blue eyes sparkle with wicked promises.  Two hundred degrees hotter than hot, he leaves a long line of broken hearts in his wake.  He loves women, everything about them, and while he is careful not to promise more than he is capable of giving; he has that special ‘something’ that draws women to him like a moth to the flame.

Always on the move, Trevor doesn’t have friends, and his enemies are too numerous to mention.  His latest business partners feed at night, and have commissioned him to find a very special coin that is rumored to possess the power to-.  Wait… I can’t tell you that yet, let’s talk ‘transportation’.

When he is not driving his black Porsche 911 convertible at the speed of sound, his muscular frame is encased in form-fitting leathers and his perfect uh-, rear end is planted firmly on his Harley as they chew-up road.  Trevor is a talented warlock, and could invoke a stealth-cloak in his sleep; which is fortunate, otherwise he would spend a large quantity of his time in defensive driving classes.

His outrageous suggestions make me blush and when he turns that smoldering gaze on me; well, I melt just thinking about it.

Unfortunately, Trev is much too young for me, and fated for another.  Besides, I’m very happily married to the most wonderful man in the world!

Alas, Trev will one day meet his match; his path will collide with sassy rebel guaranteed to turn his world up-side-down.  Until then, he will wonder in and out of the pages of my heart.  Trevor’s book, Troublesome Treasure, is slated as book seven of The Coins, but I’m not sure I can wait that long!

The Coins – what is the story?

Treasure Tides - The Coins (Book 1) by Deniece GreeneThe Secret Council of Elders have contacted Royce St. John and his Special Ops Team to recover a set of missing coins.  Arimus, the Chief Elder, explained to Royce that the coins were originally Merlin’s, who had ‘spelled’ each of them centuries ago.  Unfortunately, the coins had been stolen by Peirce Regan, a rogue warlock, who had then disappeared.  Peirce eventually double-crossed the wrong immortal, and met a gruesome end.  At some point, the coins had become separated, and fallen into circulation.

The coins should have been easy to locate and recover, because Merlin had feared they might someday end up in the wrong hands.  He had hidden a unique frequency in each coin as he created it.  The hidden frequency should have functioned similarly to a modern-day ‘homing beacon’.  However, Peirce had been a trusted friend to Merlin, and had known exactly what measures were required in order to avoid discovery.  After stealing the coins, Peirce had ‘cloaked’ them all by wrapping each coin separately in a spell crafted specifically to suppress the unique frequency Merlin had so carefully woven into each one.

Witches, working for the Council, had been trying to lift the ‘magic cloak’ for hundreds of years.  Unfortunately, the task had turned out to be very difficult, almost impossible.  Recently, however, the witches had been receiving intermittent, random signals from the coins.  The Council had decided it was time to turn the reins over to their Special Ops Team.

That was where the story ended, according to Arimus… That is where our story begins.

The Editing Process

Evidently when editing, it is not unusual for the word count to increase drastically.  Who knew?  Treasure Tides word-count is now 66,000 and growing.

I love writing, and find myself unable to sleep most nights because I am continually developing story-lines and characters for future books.

I will soon post more specific information regarding the ‘Secret Council of Elders’, details on how the coins fell into circulation, and why it is so important for ART (Artifact Recovery Team – SpecialOps) to recover them ASAP!

See my new Facebook page!  Be sure to ‘like’ the page, I will be giving away free e-book copies of Treasure Tides – Book #1 (The Coins Series) to 10 Facebook Fans!
